Brian Goble's RX-7 Weight
9/30/99
After visiting the dyno at Carburetor Connection in Kirkland (click here for the dyno session) I headed down to SpeedWare Motorsports in Redmond to have my car weighed.
SpeedWare does corner balancing so I also got the weights at all four corners, with and without me in the car.
My car itself weighs 2730 pounds. This means I've gotten rid of at least 80 pounds. I believe my biggest weight losses were replacing the pre-cat and stock main cat with the RP downpipe and hi-flow cat. The stock stuff must have weighed 80 pounds at least. I also lost 22 pounds when I replaced my stock battery with the N-Tech BMK. I gained a little weight back when I upgraded my stock IC with the ASP medium IC...and the chrome on my stock wheels probably adds a few extra pounds as well.
With me in the car, my car weighs 2907 pounds and it does throw "left vs right" balancing off a little more. But, the "front vs rear" balancing was a little closer to 50/50. The guy at the shop felt the weight distribution was pretty darn good for a street car.
Under 3000 pounds, over 300 rwhp, you gotta love single digit power to weight ratios--especially since I recently sold my motorcycle :)
